Don't say "Sayonara" for "goodbye" as it's used in movies. Sayonara is a more formal / permanent "goodbye". Instead, you can say "Mata ne!" meaning “until next time".

Don't use the term "愛人" to refer to your wife. That basically means that you have a wife, and she is not your wife.

When you enter someone's house, always say "Shitsurei shimasu" or "Ojama shimasu". It literally means "I'm being rude" but it's just a way to acknowledge that you're imposing on their time and space.

If you're saying thank you to a stranger or someone at a restaurant, or taxi driver, say "arigatou gozaimasu" to mean "thank you very much" in a polite way. Just saying "arigatou" isn't polite enough, that's only to a friend.
